New Horizons of St. Louis is excited to offer assistance on generating additional training funds to qualified clients through grants made available by the Missouri Economic Development Corporation. These grants provide financial assistance to eligible companies and organizations committed to expanding the skills of their existing workforce through training programs.

Potential Grants Include:

The Technology Enhancement Certification for Missourians (TECH) Fund:

The TECH Fund is a grant program of up to 50 percent reimbursements with funding of up to $50,000. By rapidly increasing the number of certified Information Technology workers in Missouri, this fund will assist Missouri businesses in meeting the demands of the new information economy. This grant is only for a company’s Information Technology workers.

If you have an IT training budget for 2009 and 2010, this program may provide your company with reimbursement funds of up to $2,500 a person for those intent on achieving IT industry certifications.

The Skills Enhancement Fund (SEF):

The SEF provides financial assistance to businesses committed to training their eligible Missouri-resident employees. The SEF reimburses for eligible training expenses over a two-year term. Companies can receive reimbursements of up to $200,000 for retraining existing workers.

Supplemental grant awards may be available for training new employees. This grant is designed to support the training needs of the entire organization, not just those of the IT department.

Eligible SEF Fund Training Activities:

• Basic Skills: Traditional basic skills (reading, writing and math)
• Transferable Skills: Skills that enhance an employee’s general knowledge, employability, and flexibility in the workplace (computer skills, blueprint reading, problem solving, team participation, welding, etc.)
• Company-Specific Skills: Those skills unique to a particular company’s workplace, equipment, and capital investment.
• Quality-Assurance Skills: Skills that are intended to increase the quality of the company’s product (Statistical Process Control (SPC), Total Quality Management (TQM), International Organization for Standardization (ISO), and Quality Systems (QS).
