Post-9/11 GI Bill benefits help you get started in your career quickly. Depending on your percentage of eligibility you can get started with little or no out-of-pocket expense or education loans.
What benefits am I eligible to receive?
Tuition and fees:
Tuition and fees are paid directly to New Horizons based on your percentage of eligibility.
Veterans who served less than 36 total months on active duty will receive a percentage of tuition and fees. For example, veterans who served on or after September 11, 2001, for a total of 90 days—or who were honorably discharged for a service-connected disability after serving at least 30 consecutive days—are eligible for the Post-9/11 GI Bill.
Service periods already pledged to satisfy a service academy active duty obligation, and service periods pledged for education loan repayment purposes, do not count as active duty service to establish eligibility for Post-9/11 GI Bill education benefits. In general, veterans will receive 36 months of benefits. They have 15 years, from the date of their last separation from active duty, to use the benefits.
The Post-9/11 GI Bill provides up to 36 months of education benefits. It is payable only for training at an eligible institution. The benefits cover tuition and fees.
Tuition and Fees: Veterans who served at least 36 months of active duty service may qualify for 100% of available education benefits. Veterans who served less than 36 total months on active duty will receive a percentage of the tuition and fees.

Monthly housing stipend:
This portion of the benefit is paid directly to the veteran each month he or she is enrolled in classes. The housing stipend is based on the institution’s ZIP code.
Books and supplies:
Veterans are eligible for up to $1,000 in the form of an annual stipend for books and supplies. This payment is made directly to the student.
