Microsoft entering the Facebook social-gaming realm

Microsoft Research has recently launched its first Facebook game, Project Waterloo, and developers are using the new game to study the behavior of people in game theoretic interaction in social networks.

The game is two-player and users have 100 troops each on a battlefield. It is one of the many social /casual games that Microsoft has been testing across the company.

Microsoft believes that carrying out its behavioral game theory on Facebook could provide for some interesting happenings within the company such as an increased opportunity for viral marketing and the game will show the company many key socio-demographic and behavioral variables.

Microsoft says the game is complex from a game-theoretic perspective which involves the users to know their opponents reasoning and involves randomized strategies.

One company that is prospering from using the Facebook game platform is Double Down Interactive, a social game company, that recently announced that more than 1 million Facebook users are playing its DoubleDown Casino game.

"Facebook has been invaluable in providing us a platform that makes it possible to reach the millions of casino gamers across the globe," said Greg Enell, co-founder and CEO of Double Down Interactive.
