Cisco moving into Russia

Cisco Systems recently announced it will open a network innovation center in Russia's hi-tech center in Skolkovo, near Moscow, in the fall of 2012 to focus on the development of new video analysis technologies.

United Press International reported the innovation center will initially work on the development of a system for analyzing large volumes of CCTV video material, but the project has yet to meet regulatory approval. The center will also work on creating new energy network systems.

The move to Skolkovo is expected to provide IT training for 30 new employees in the area, and is part of a series of projects set to take place in Russia. In June 2010, Cisco President John Chambers and Russian President Dmitry Medvedev agreed that the company would invest $1 billion into its work with Russia, RIA Novosti reported.

But Cisco is also working on projects to promote technology upgrades in the United States. In a recent Cisco Blog post, the company offered consumers tech advice regarding the value of wireless network technology in regards to integrating mobile devices and other technology into the system.

The post explained that new wireless gadgets that might be given as gifts this season could be held back from reaching their full potential with an old wireless router. To make sure technology is working at its peak, companies should make sure their employees have access to the latest Cisco IT training programs.
