Citrix Receiver can deploy Microsoft Office through desktop virtualization

The Citrix Receiver allows for a desktop virtualization solution for businesses that deploy bring-your-own-device policies for their employees, according to InformationWeek.

The website said businesses are slowly moving away from Microsoft Office, while migrating towards devices like smartphones and tablets that run Apple iOS or Google's Android, which can be deployed by the Citrix Receiver.

"We believe more users will be using Windows apps on devices that are not running Windows," John Fanelli, vice presidents of product marketing for enterprise desktops and applications at Citrix, told InformationWeek.

Those with IT careers are expected to see an increase in desktop virtualization in the upcoming years, with devices such as the Citrix Receiver. Although the Citrix Receiver is not a Microsoft product, it still has the capabilities to deploy Microsoft programs, reported the website.

According to Network World, companies with strict budgets may be cutting back on server virtualization, while increasing their use of virtual desktops.

The website said companies can get more out of virtualized desktops for less money, as the new technology can help reduce their electricity usage.
