Amazon adds Microsoft Windows Server to free usage tier

Amazon Web Services recently announced its customers can now run their Microsoft Windows Server applications within the AWS Free Usage Tier, designed to help get Amazon customers in the cloud. Businesses using Windows Server applications can now use Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud Micro Instance usage to launch new applications, test existing applications, or gain experience with AWS. Companies can offer IT training to make sure their employees know how to use the service.

Peter De Santis, general manager of Amazon EC2, said the new service allows users to build their applications without being stuck in a single programming model, language or operating system.

"Through our continued work with Microsoft, Windows developers now have an opportunity to see, at no cost, how they can leverage Amazon Web Services' scalable and cost-effective computing environment," said De Santis.

And now AWS is being offered in the U.K. as well as the United States. Companies can connect with their international branches in Britain using Amazon's Web Service, Computing reported.
