Local communities hosting IT job fairs

The City Hall in El Paso, Texas, will be filled with IT professionals on the prowl for one of the 10 high paying jobs available in the city's IT Department.

The El Paso Times reported the city is holding the job fair after traditional hiring channels failed to produce enough qualified applications for a new talent pool. Instead, the city has decided to host the event, accept resumes and even speak one-on-one with job seekers who have received the necessary IT training and certifications to work in the information technology department.

The source reported the event will be held in the evening after business hours so IT professionals who are currently employed can still check out the fair. Linda Thomas, director of the city's Human Resources Department, said the available jobs are some of the highest-paying positions in city government and require a minimum of a four-year college degree. The salaries range from $33,218 to $47,436 for entry-level positions, and can reach up to $83,450 for upper-level jobs.

In addition, Alexandria, Virginia, will also play host to an IT job fair. An international company is considering opening up a branch in Alexandria, and representatives are holding the event to scope out the qualified technical support professionals in the area, The Town Talk reported.
