A new report from Accenture predicts context-based services will become an emerging technology trend in 2012, helping IT professionals increase revenue for their companies. In order to take advantage of this new service, companies should invest in IT training to make sure their departments are up to date. The report said context-based services will grow in popularity, as new sources of contextual information (e.g. smartphones and tablets), the increased use of social media and advancements in cloud-computing will increase demand for these services. Consumers using these technologies are now demanding the development of powerful tools to aggregate and analyze multiple forms of data, and IT professionals should be trained to meet these demands."CIOs and other IT leaders who have started to leverage contextual data to build a deeper understanding of consumer preferences and habits are establishing themselves as strategic players within their companies," said Gavin Michael, Accenture's chief technology innovation officer. "They are teaming more effectively with functions such as sales and marketing and leveraging contextual services to drive new revenue and deliver more value for their businesses."To help increase resources for women looking to start a career in information technology, the National Center for Women and Information Technology recently launched an Affinity Group Alliance to integrate support groups and resources for women in IT. The NCWIT will work with Bank of America, Brocade of Women in Networking, Microsoft women Employee Resource Group and many other organizations.
