The Global Information Technology Report series from the World Economic Forum is a comprehensive international assessment of the preparedness of economies to leverage networked technology for economic gain. The 2012 report provides a platform to encourage public and private dialogue on best practices for network convergence and further actions to improve preparedness. Companies adequately utilizing IT professionals with computer training are increasing their growth and well-being.In the report, researchers measure countries based on their network readiness index, which tracks how efficiently countries integrate new technologies for future growth. Sweden is leading the world in network preparedness, followed by Singapore and Finland. The report features expert contributions discussing what effects living in a connected environment have on the people and community. The goal of the report is to encourage people and businesses to utilize internet connectivity to communicate instantly.“The Networked Readiness Index (NRI) has been adopted by several governments as a valuable tool for assessing and leveraging technology for competitiveness and development," said Soumitra Dutta, professor of business and technology at INSEAD and co-editor of the report. "The success of the NRI emphasizes the importance of continuing to evolve its framework with the changing landscape of technology and the new opportunities it creates."The report found countries such as South Africa are not sufficiently leveraging interconnective technology for economic purposes. Other countries, such as Lebanon, feel their national economy is at a significant disadvantage in the global marketplace as a result of its weakness in information and communications technology adoption and implementation.
