Ghana makes IT a priority

The Ghana government recently started offering IT training and for information technology and management personnel in the public service sector.

The training initiative is part of the government's plan to guide and regulate recruitment of personnel in line with IT goals of the future. The government acknowledges a need for effective participation of female IT employees, in particular, to reduce the gender disparity in the country. Existing female IT professionals in the public sector are being called in to mentor young professionals pursuing a technology career, Ghana Web reported.

As a result of its efforts to prioritizing IT development and training in the public sector, the Ghana government was recently applauded by the delegates of the African Network Operators' Group and the African Regional International Registry.

Professor Muhammedou Kah, vice chancellor of the University of Gambia, addressed the need for advanced ICT training and deployment throughout Africa, and how Ghana's government is leading the way with its technology agenda. Many universities in Africa are developing IT programs to encourage innovation in students, and further technology studies to improve society, AllAfrica reported.
