Federal workers see technology barriers

A recent MeriTalk survey in concert with Google spoke with 220 federal employees in the United States and found that most of them end up using technology in some way, regardless of age of the user. However, many employees wished there was more technology options on the federal level. IT training and computing training may be a good way to help more technology options be adopted into the government in a useful way.

"When looking at technology for personal use, federal employees are willing to learn it themselves," MeriTalk said in a written explanation of the survey results. "When directed to use a new technology at work, they expect enough training to use the new technology with some proficiency."

The survey said while 90 percent of consumers shop and bank online, 67 percent agreed with the statement "I wish that the technology at work could keep up with the changes in technology in my personal life." The agreement jumped to 80 percent with those 35 years old and younger.

This should be a sign to both companies and the government that implementing technology doesn't have to be a scary thing as far as IT training is concerned. People want to learn and education should be easy to come by.
