She said workers should do their homework, volunteer for strategic roles, look into what the business world has to offer them with their skills and perhaps consider a consulting role in IT."If leaving IT altogether strikes you as too big a leap, consider taking on IT consulting projects within or outside of your organization," she told the source. "What's more, acting as a consultant allows IT professionals to 'figure out how the organization works and how to get things done' in a business environment."Network World said there are some top skills in an IT career that could easily translate to other worlds, including business process modeling, working with databases and IT security, which every company needs more of right now.
