Businesses targeted in Office 2010 push

In an interview with CNET, Microsoft's business division president Stephen Elop says that the company has included a number of upgrades to its Office 2010 suite that will provide multiple incentives for businesses to upgrade.

Elop says that many specific upgrades to Outlook help employees manage their communications. The revamped program helps ignore "threads of communication that are annoying" and adds a layer of interoperability to connect with social networking sites like Facebook through the new Outlook Social Connector.

In terms of specific IT applications, he added that Office also includes multiple opportunities for companies to take advantage of new, cloud-based programs, and has also introduced new capabilities for SharePoint and its Exchange Server.

Bloomberg says that Microsoft expects Office 2010 to be adopted faster than any other version of Office ever, meaning that employees already trained in it will be in much higher demand as companies look to add support staff.

Forrester Research says that more than 80 percent of enterprises are using some version of Microsoft Office and only 8 percent are using alternatives, giving those trained in Office a number of potential opportunities.
