Microsoft Office 2011 for Mac is a boon for IT professionals

IT experts have been struggling for years when it comes to integrating Macs into their company's infrastructure. While many software applications could be transferred between PCs and Macs, Microsoft had never designed a version of Outlook that was compatible with Apple computers.

With the release of Office 2011 for Mac earlier this week, IT professionals can rest at ease as Outlook has finally come to the Macintosh-compatible productivity suite.

The integration with Outlook has led many industry analysts to call the new version of Office the best ever. Indeed, Gartner analyst Michael Gartenburg told Computerworld "this is the best Office ever, not just on the Mac. It brings the Mac version to parity with the Windows version, but it still feels like Mac software, not a Windows port. Mac Office doesn't feel like you walked into your house in the dark and someone rearranged all the furniture."

Another major feature of the Mac-compatible Office is the inclusion of the ribbon interface. Ribbon was initially unpopular because it was quite different from the previous Office interface. As individuals received Microsoft training, ribbon's efficiency was realized and the interface became popular.
