Dan Geers

Dan Geers
Instructor

Dan has been teaching at New Horizons since 2003 and has taught a wide range of courses including graphic design, web design, databases and more. His current focus is primarily on the Microsoft Office Suite and the Adobe Creative Suite. He is a passionate and enthusiastic instructor who loves to share tips and tricks to help you work smarter, faster, and easier. Prior to New Horizons, Dan taught junior high and high school English. He is also a former trainer for Xerox and worked onsite at more than 100 corporations around the US. He brings lots of real-life experience to the classroom.

Facts and Hobbies:

Dan is also a children's entertainer, specializing in balloon art, juggling, and magic. And he winters in New York each year, playing Santa. He loves bringing that same sense of wonder to adults.

Deborah Farver Plumb

Deborah Farver Plumb

Deb is the General Manager and part owner of New Horizons Des Moines for over 23 years. Deb attended Iowa State University majoring in Accounting and Management Information Systems. After graduating Iowa State Deb passed the CPA exam and was a financial auditor for Deloitte and Touche. Her combination of IT and accounting skills lead her to New Horizons where she enjoys working with others to realize their full potential both in life and within their profession.

Facts and Hobbies:

More than anything Deb loves spending time with her family – husband, three teenage boys and her parents. She is extremely passionate about mentoring at risk youth and considers many to be an extension of her family. In her spare time, you will find her working in her yard, playing with her dogs or rehabbing houses.

Idiom – “It takes a village” which means many people must cooperate to achieve a goal. Deb believes more than anything that “It takes a village to raise a child" and believes this can be applied to just about every aspect of our lives. Everything is easier as a team that trying to go it alone!

Mike Anderson

Mike is currently a Senior Account Executive and has been with New Horizons of Des Moines for over 9 years. A native of Kansas City, MO he moved to Iowa to attend Drake University where he majored in Biology. At New Horizons, Mike has attained various certifications related to technology sales and training (Microsoft, VMware, and Cisco). He loves to learn and is passionate about helping individuals and organizations achieve their goals. Prior to New Horizons, Mike had various sales roles at Mediacom and worked on non-profit fundraising teams. Mike brings a blend of customer service, product knowledge, and the ability to apply course content and objectives to his role on the sales team.

Facts and Hobbies:

Mike has many hobbies outside of work. He relishes time with his children, loves golf and anything sports related, and learning more about technology and how it is changing the way we live.

Strategic sales leader with more than 20 years of progressive experience in start-up and Fortune 500 environments. Insightful strategist providing results with sales, marketing, financial administration, team development/leadership, operations management and client services. Sales leader focused on cultivating strong business relationships to grow the bottom line. Has a degree in Education, completed Executive Leadership Training as well as Sales Training with Dale Carnegie and Amyk.

Facts and Hobbies:

Stephanie enjoys hot yoga, long walks, being at the ocean, family time and traveling. Stephanie & her husband along with her sister, friend and cousins all trained for and completed The Chicago Marathon together. She loves spending time with her daughter who is completing the Nursing program at the University of Iowa. She is a cancer survivor!
