Course Overview

Struggling with bottlenecks, rework, or wasted time in your processes? You’re not alone; process inefficiencies cost companies up to 30% of their revenue each year.

The Lean Foundations Workshop gives you the tools to change that. In just two days, you’ll go beyond theory and dive into real-world Lean techniques through an immersive Kaizen simulation. You’ll learn how to identify the root causes of inefficiency, eliminate waste, and boost the flow of value across any process, whether in operations, manufacturing, healthcare, or office workflows.

Led by expert instructors, this hands-on workshop introduces powerful tools like 5S, value stream mapping, and root cause analysis. You’ll leave with a practical Lean toolkit and a customized action plan to start improving processes immediately. Plus, you’ll earn 19.5 PDUs to help maintain your professional credentials.

What Is Included

  • Expert-led training with real-world scenarios
  • Course materials, worksheets, and templates (VSM, A3, 5S)
  • Hands-on exercises and group simulations
  • Certificate of completion
  • Access to class recordings for 90 days (where available)
  • Guaranteed-to-run dates (on select sessions)
  • Flexible rescheduling options

Course Objectives

After completing this course, participants will be able to define value from the customer’s perspective, map value streams, quantify flow, and remove waste using proven Lean tools and behaviors. Graduates return ready to facilitate improvements, sustain gains, and build momentum for a Lean culture.

  • Explain Lean principles and distinguish value-add vs. non–value-add work
  • Create current- and future-state value stream maps to visualize flow
  • Measure and interpret takt time, cycle time, lead time, WIP, and throughput
  • Identify and reduce the eight wastes (muda), using 5 Whys and cause-and-effect
  • Apply 5S, visual management, standard work, and basic Kanban/WIP limits
  • Plan and facilitate a focused Kaizen/PDCA improvement effort and sustain results

What is Lean Foundations training? Is it worth it?

Lean Foundations is a practical introduction to the principles and tools used to reduce waste, improve flow, and increase quality. It’s “worth it” if you need measurable improvements in lead time, throughput, and customer satisfaction, and want a shared language and toolkit your team can apply immediately.

What will I gain from this training?

You’ll learn how to see waste, map value streams, set takt time, stabilize processes with standard work and visual management, and facilitate PDCA/Kaizen. Expect tangible, ready-to-use templates and a clear plan to pilot improvements in your area.

Will this course help me run a Kaizen event?

Yes. You’ll plan a focused improvement, scope a problem using A3, collect baseline data, facilitate team activities, prioritize countermeasures, and define controls to sustain gains after the event.

Will this course help me map a process and cut lead time?

Yes. You’ll create current- and future-state value stream maps, quantify cycle time, WIP, and bottlenecks, and design flow and pull strategies that typically reduce lead time and variability.

Does this course align to a certification path?

It provides a strong foundation for Lean Practitioner or Lean Six Sigma Yellow/Green Belt study. No exam voucher is included with this course.

Learning Credits: Learning Credits can be purchased well in advance of your training date to avoid having to commit to specific courses or dates.
