Best Places to Work Awards

For the 5th year in a row, New Horizons Computer Learning Centers of Southern California (NHSoCal) was named as one of the Best Places to Work in Los Angeles, Orange County and San Diego.

Laura Noid, VP Employee Experience stated, “Being focused on the employee experience is not just my job title, it’s my passion and deepest belief. We, as a company, have learned to look in the mirror, truly see who we are, where we are, and where we wanted to be. We have made changes, tough changes, to ensure we are treating people the right way. To have employees recognize us as the best place to work gives me confidence in the changes we have implemented and excitement for what the future holds.”

Each award has categories of small, medium and large companies. NHSoCal qualified in the category of medium sized companies (50-249 employees) with a total of 120 employees at the time of submission.

Los Angeles: #25

Orange County: # 16

San Diego: #9

This annual program was created by the Los Angeles Business Journal and Best Companies Group. This survey and awards program was designed to identify, recognize and honor the best employers in Los Angeles, Orange County and San Diego, benefiting the county's economy, workforce and businesses.

The most dynamic and changing center over the last 5 years has been San Diego. With company growth of 40 new jobs created, almost half of those have been in San Diego. With an evolving market, changing competitors, and top talent, the energy of the employees in San Diego shines brighter than the sun. Based in San Diego, VP of Sales and General Manager Ryan Landry stated, “Having people excited to come to work every day allows us to give our clients and partners the best service and solutions for them. Without our people, we have no business. I’m excited because my clients ask me about this all the time. What makes you different? Well we love coming to work every day! Our people are #1. With that cultural mindset, our customer always ends up winning too.”

To be considered for participation, NHSoCal had to fulfill the following eligibility requirements:

· Be a for-profit, not-for-profit business or government entity

· Be a publicly or privately held business

· Have a facility in Los Angeles, Orange County and San Diego

· Have at least 15 employees in Los Angeles, Orange County and San Diego

· Be in business a minimum of 1 year

Companies from across the county entered the two-part survey process to determine the Best Places to Work in Los Angeles, Orange County and San Diego. The first part consisted of evaluating each nominated company's workplace policies, practices, philosophy, systems and demographics. This part of the process was worth approximately 25% of the total evaluation. The second part consisted of an employee survey to measure the employee experience. This part of the process was worth approximately 75% of the total evaluation. The combined scores determined the top companies and the final rankings. Best Companies Group managed the overall registration and survey process in Los Angeles, Orange County and San Diego analyzed the data and determined the final rankings.
