Red Hat Certification: Proven Real World Skills

The RHCSA & RHCE

Are you skeptical of IT certifications? Well, Red Hat certifications are different. To earn a Red Hat certification, you must pass a hands-on, practical exam in which you complete real-world tasks using the technology rather than just being asked questions about it.

Red Hat certification programs validate people’s technical skills and knowledge. Organizations hiring employees, contractors and consultants can look to Red Hat certifications as an input into hiring, assignment, promotion and other management decisions. Similarly, individuals who earn these certifications benefit by having official, impartial validation of their skills and knowledge.

More Reasons to Earn Red Hat Certification:

  • 77% of hiring managers had “hiring Linux talent” on their list of priorities for 2014
  • 46% of hiring managers are beefing up their recruiting plans for Linux talent
  • 86% of Linux professionals say knowledge of Linux has given them more career opportunities

Red Hat Certified Systems Administrator—RHCSA
A Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA) certification is earned when an IT professional demonstrates the core system administration skills required in Red Hat Enterprise Linux environments. To achieve a RHCSA certification, candidates must pass the RHCSA Exam (EX200).

Target Audience for a RHCSA:

  • Experienced Red Hat Enterprise Linux system administrators seeking validation of their skills.
  • Students who have attended Red Hat System Administration I and II and are on the path to earn RHCSA certification.
  • Experienced Linux system administrators who require a certification either by their organization or based on a mandate (DOD 8570
    directive).
  • IT professionals who are on the path to earn a Red Hat Certified Engineer(RHCE) certification.
  • RHCEs who are non-current or who are about to become non-current and wish to re-certify as RHCEs.

Red Hat Certified Engineer—RHCSE

A Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE) certification is earned by a Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA) who has demonstrated the knowledge, skill and ability required of a senior system administrator responsible for Red Hat Enterprise Linux systems. To achieve a RHCE certification, candidates must pass the RHCE Exam (EX300).

Target Audience for an RHCSA

  • RHCSAs who wish to earn a more senior-level credential.
  • Experienced senior system administrators who have not yet certified.
  • Course participants in Red Hat Training who have completed System Administration I, II, and II, or who have completed the RHCE Rapid
    Track Course.
  • Experienced system administrators who require certification for their job or by mandate (e.g., US Department of Defense Directive 8570).
Key Differences between a RHCSA and an RHCE
RHCSA is intended as the core system administration certification offered by Red Hat. From the release of Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 6, everyone who wishes to earn a system administration certification from Red Hat will begin by earning this credential. Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE), on the other hand, is intended as a senior system administration certification. In order to earn RHCE under Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 and after, one must earn RHCSA and pass a separate RHCE exam on the same RHEL version.
